IMPORTANT NOTE - Windows Media Player 9

This program uses Microsoft Windows Media Player. Microsoft is currently testing its new Windows Media Player 9. It is in "pre-release" and has been found to be not 100% compatible with this program. (see notes below)

TECHNICAL NOTES

Microsoft Internet Explorer
The Integrated Multimedia environment runs in a web browser application. The preferred application is Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5.0 or higher. Use the link below for the download page:

Microsoft Internet Explorer

This program will not work with Internet Explorer 3.0 or earlier.

Windows Media Player
The Integrated Multimedia environment uses Windows Media Player 6.4 software (or higher) to play ASF (Advanced Streaming Format) files. The Integrated Multimedia environment will work with NetShow 2.0 software, but the playback controls may not be completely visible. Please install Windows Media Player 6.4  (or higher) to see the controls.

If you do not see the Video frame when selecting a presentation from the main menu, Windows Media Player may not be installed. The link below will open a new window where you can download the player:

http://microsoft.com/windows/mediaplayer

IMPORTANT NOTE:
When installing Windows Media Player, the setup program may open a browser window to connect with the Windows Media website at Microsoft.com. If you have an internet connection, please allow the setup program to connect and complete the installation procedure.

ASF files for the Integrated Multimedia environment have been compressed with the VivoActive codec and are NetShow 2.0 version files. Windows Media Player 6.0 plays ASF files, along with AVI, MPG, MP3, QuickTime and other media formats. You may also check the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com for more information on the latest version of Windows Media Player.

Windows Media Player 7.1
The Integrated Multimedia environment has been tested with Windows Media Player 7.1 and is 100% compatible on all systems. However, users of Windows NT 4.0 should not install Windows Media Player 7.0 and should instead use Windows Media Player 6.0 for complete compatibility with other Windows NT components. You may also check the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com for more information on the latest version of Windows Media Player.

Windows Media Player 9 Series
This Integrated Multimedia environment was released during the beta release ("release candidate") of Windows Media Player 9 Series and was found to be not 100% compatible on all systems. The most common issue is audio without video in the player window. A bug report has been submitted to Microsoft and they are aware of the problem.

Please DO NOT install Windows Media Player 9. If you have installed Windows Media Player 9, please uninstall and go back to the previous version of the player (7.1). Check the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com for more information on the latest version of Windows Media Player.

Macromedia Flash

This program uses Macromedia Flash. If your system does not have Flash installed, this program will automatically prompt you to install it. If you are not prompted and do not have the Flash software, please download it from Macromedia:

http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/

No Video and/or No Audio
In some cases, systems using Windows 2000 or Windows NT do not have the required video and audio codecs to view Integrated Multimedia. Installing the Windows 2000/NT version of Windows Media Player 7.0 may not solve this problem. Also, Internet Explorer security settings may prevent Windows Media Player from downloading the needed codec from Microsoft. In this case, please download the codecs manually. Use the following procedure:

1. Right-click on the following links, use the "Save Target As..." option and save the files to the "System32" directory on your system. On most systems, this is located in "C:\Winnt\System32" or "x:\Winnt\System32" where x: is the drive letter where Windows 2000/NT is installed.

Vivo Video Codec

Vivo Audio Codec

2. After copying the files to the "System32" directory, you must register the codecs. From the Windows Start button, select Run. In Open: field type in the following:

regsrv32 vvvidflt.ax

and click on OK. A confirmation message is displayed.

3. Then, type in the following:

regsvr32 vvaudflt.ax

and click on OK. Another confirmation message is displayed.

4. Close any browser windows that contain Windows Media Player.

Now, Integrated Multimedia content should play normally. In some cases, a system restart may be required.

Upside Down Video

On some system, video may appear upside-down in the player. If this happens, please change you display settings from 32-bit color to 24-bit or 16-bit color and try again. This is a known issue with the Intel video chip set.

Missing Scrollbars or Partial Screen

Typically, Integrated Multimedia pages hide the browser toolbar, menus, and scrollbars to use your entire screen. In order for Internet Explorer to hide these elements the page needs to install an ActiveX control (nskey.dll) on your system. However, your browser security may be preventing the control from being loaded. You can change the security on your browser to prompt whenever this type of control needs to be installed, giving you the option to install or not.

Use the following steps to modify Internet Explorer security (versions 5 and up).

1. Start Internet Explorer.

2. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu in Internet Explorer.

3. Click on the Security tab and click on the Internet icon (globe).

4. Click on Custom Level button.

5. Scroll to the section entitled "Download unsigned ActiveX controls" and select the Prompt option.

6. Click on the OK button and select Yes when prompted.

7. Click on the OK button to close the Internet Options dialog box.

8. Close all browser windows and re-load the WBT or MBT program.

9. The ActiveX control will attempt to load and prompt you to install. Select Yes when prompted.

WARNING! Do not set your browser security to Enable for unsigned ActiveX controls. This would allow any website to install a control on your system without your knowledge.

Windows Media Player 4.0
The Integrated Multimedia environment has been tested with the Windows Media Player 4.0, but is not 100% compatible on all systems. Loss of video/audio synchronization or unstable audio playback may occur.

The initial release of Windows Media Player 5.0, 5.2 and 6.0 did not have the latest audio codec for VivoActive encoded ASF files. If you have previously installed the Windows Media Player, close Internet Explorer and re-install Windows Media Player.

Buffering and Synchronization
Because the Windows Media ASF is a streaming media technology you may see a pause in the video playback, with the word "Buffering" displayed in the Windows Media Player. This is normal operation and may occur with low-speed connections. Excessive back and forth navigation within a presentation may increase this.

Also with back and forth navigation, you may notice a loss of audio/video synchronization or skipping. To re-sync, click on the Pause button to pause the presentation and navigate to the previous slide, then click on Play to resume viewing.

The best way to avoid this loss of sync when moving around a presentation is to first click on the Pause button and then navigate to the desired slide. Then, click on Play again to resume viewing.

Netscape Navigator/Communicator
Microsoft Internet Explorer (5.0 and above) is the preferred platform for the Integrated Multimedia environment. This environment has been tested with Netscape Navigator 4.0 and 5.0 browsers and is not 100% compatible. Video, audio and slides appear normally, however the synchronized captions will not display. BasisMedia does not guarantee or support functionality with Netscape Navigator, the AOL browser, or any browser other than Internet Explorer 5.0.

Q: When I load a page I see only part of the page and there are no scrollbars to see the rest of the page. Am I doing something wrong?
A: You may not have the required ActiveX installed for this. Click here to install the ActiveX.

Q: I can access the Integrated Multimedia environment and see all the components, but the video and/or audio skips or seems "jerky". What can I do?
A: There may be several issues. First, check to see that you have the latest Windows Media Player. Click here to open a new window where you can download the player. Also, there are specific minimum system requirements for running Integrated Multimedia. Click here to see a list of requirements. Finally, if you are viewing content using an Internet connection, make sure your connection speed matches the content. Most content is encoded to 96kbps or higher, with some as low as 56kbps. If you are connecting at a lower speed, streaming will be unreliable and the video and audio will be jerky. If you cannot connect at a higher speed, please contact your content provider for a CD-ROM version of the content.

Q: The text in the captioning window and/or slides is cut off. What can I do?
A: You may need to set your display to "Small Fonts". To set this, right click on your Windows Desktop and select Properties (or use Control Panel > Display). Select the "Settings" tab and click on the "Advanced" button and choose "Small Fonts". You may be asked for your Windows CD and to restart Windows to continue.

Q: The browser window is cut off on my screen. What can I do?
A: Most Integrated Multimedia programs are designed to run in a window that is 800x600 pixels. You may need to set your display resolution to 800x600 or higher. To set this, right click on your Windows Desktop and select Properties (or use Control Panel > Display). Select the "Settings" tab and choose 800x600 or higher. You may be asked for your Windows CD and to restart Windows to continue. If your system cannot use the desired pixel resolution (800x600) and higher than 256 colors, you may need to upgrade your video card.

A: You may need to adjust your display resolution to something above 256 colors. To set this, right click on your Windows Desktop and select Properties (or use Control Panel > Display). Select the "Settings" tab and choose a setting higher than 256 colors (e.g., High Color (16-bit), True Color (24-bit), (32-bit). This may also affect the pixel resolution - make sure it is 800x600 or higher. You may be asked for your Windows CD and to restart Windows to continue. If your system cannot use the desired pixel resolution (800x600) and higher than 256 colors, you may need to upgrade your video card.

Q: I'm trying to view a software screen recording or product demonstration. A windows opens and I hear sound, but there is no picture. Is there something I can do?
A: You need to install a special screen recording codec from TechSmith. Click here to open a window where you can download the codec. After downloading, run the TSCC.EXE program to install the codec.

Q: I'm trying to view content with Netscape or AOL. Is Integrated Multimedia or MBT compatible with Netscape Navigator or the AOL browser?
A: Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.01 and above) is the preferred platform for the Integrated Multimedia environment. This environment has been tested with Netscape Navigator 4.0 and 5.0 browsers. Video, audio and slides appear normally, however the synchronized captions will not display. BasisMedia does not guarantee or support functionality with Netscape Navigator, the AOL browser, or any browser other than Internet Explorer.

Q: My system has both Internet Explorer and Netscape (or AOL). I want to continue using Netscape (or AOL) to view web content, but want to use Internet Explorer for Integrated Multimedia content. Can I do this?
A: Yes. Netscape (or AOL) and Internet Explorer can coexist with no problems. However, for Integrated Multimedia site and content, please set Internet Explorer as you default browser and use Internet Explorer when viewing sites that contain Integrated Multimedia content. To set this, start Internet Explorer (5.0 or above) and select Tools > Internet Options... > Programs tab and select the checkbox labeled "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser".
